Preliminary Survey Report – La Prairie (13th May 2025)

Coastal lagoons are critical marine habitats that support high biodiversity and deliver essential ecosystem services. However, these environments are increasingly threatened by anthropogenic pressures and climate change, resulting in habitat degradation and biodiversity loss. La Prairie is a touristic site, surrounded by extensive infrastructural development. Over the years, it has experienced significant coral bleaching and damage driven by climate change, corallivore outbreaks, and intense tourist activity. To effectively plan for the restoration of this lagoon, it is first essential to evaluate its current condition. This study presents a preliminary assessment of the benthic environment, species composition, and key environmental parameters of the La Prairie lagoon to determine its ecological status and guide future conservation initiatives.
