LagoonLife Foundation is a Mauritius-based non-profit organization committed to the preservation and restoration of lagoon and marine ecosystems.
LagoonLife Foundation is a Mauritius-based non-profit organization committed to the preservation and restoration of lagoon and marine ecosystems. Born from the urgent need to protect our coastal waters, the foundation brings together science, action, and community engagement to address the growing threats of climate change, coral degradation, and marine pollution.
Rooted in the southwest of the island, LagoonLife operates in close synergy with Born To Fly Ltd, a seaplane company whose aerial perspective plays a vital role in environmental monitoring. Together, we form a unique partnership—where conservation and aviation work hand in hand to safeguard the lagoons, monitor marine life such as turtles and corals, and guide research and restoration with real-time, sky-based insights.
Our work is strengthened by a formal scientific collaboration with the University of Mauritius, through which we carry out coral monitoring, water sampling, biodiversity studies, and long-term research to guide reef restoration. This partnership ensures that our conservation efforts are rooted in data, research, and ecological integrity.
Everything we do is guided by scientific rigor, environmental respect, and a deep love for the life below Mauritius’ waves.
While LagoonLife Foundation and LagoonFlight operate in different spheres conservation and aviation they are intrinsically linked by geography, vision, and responsibility. Together, they form a unique model of aerial-supported marine conservation, focused on preserving the southwest lagoon of Mauritius for future generations.
Aerial Surveillance of Marine Ecosystems
LagoonFlight’s regular flights provide an unmatched aerial perspective, allowing LagoonLife to monitor the coastal zone in ways no boat or diver can. Their seaplanes help detect:
These insights feed directly into the foundation’s field strategies, research documentation, and emergency responses.
One of the most valuable aspects of the seaplane collaboration is their role in turtle conservation. From above, LagoonFlight pilots regularly spot:
These sightings are reported directly to the LagoonLife team, helping us map turtle activity, respond to threats, and inform future rescue and rehabilitation efforts. Without the seaplanes, many of these turtles would go unseen.
Daily flights cover the La Prairie area and surrounding reef systems zones that coincide with LagoonLife’s core projects. This allows for:
It’s an efficient, low-impact monitoring system that increases our reach without increasing our environmental footprint.
Together, they create a sustainable feedback loop—where eco-tourism and marine conservation work hand in hand.
This partnership represents more than convenience—it’s a strategic national asset. By integrating seaplane monitoring into scientific and rescue work, Mauritius gains a pioneering model for:
LagoonLife and LagoonFlight show that when passion meets precision, innovation can serve nature.
