🌿 Coming Together for Our Coast
On April 4th, we gathered at La Prairie for a community beach cleanup alongside partners and volunteers who showed up with one shared intention: to take care of our coastline and protect the lagoon that surrounds us.
From early in the morning, there was already a great energy. People arriving, reconnecting, and getting ready to take action together.
👥 A Community Effort
Around twenty people joined throughout the morning, including volunteers, partners, families, and children.
Seeing people of all ages come together like this is always something special. It’s a reminder that protecting our environment is something we all share, and something we can pass on to the next generation.
♻️ Taking Action on the Ground
Over a stretch of roughly 250 to 300 meters of coastline, the team worked together to remove waste that had accumulated along the beach.
In just a few hours, around 20 bags of waste (50L each) were collected, along with fishing nets, gear, and larger debris, including fragments of car materials.
It’s a strong reminder that what we leave behind doesn’t disappear. It stays, and eventually finds its way into the lagoon.
🌊 Why It Matters
Everything that is left on the beach has the potential to end up in the ocean.
Once it’s there, it affects marine life, coral ecosystems, and the overall balance of the lagoon.
Actions like this may seem simple, but they play an essential role in reducing that impact and raising awareness.
đź’¬ A Positive Energy
Beyond the cleanup itself, what stood out most was the atmosphere.
There was a real sense of collaboration, motivation, and shared purpose throughout the morning. Children were involved, people were connecting, and even beachgoers nearby took the time to thank the team for the work being done.
These moments show how powerful community action can be.
🌱 Moving Forward
This cleanup is just one step, but it’s an important one.
Change starts with awareness and grows through action, together.
We will continue building on this momentum to protect our lagoons, our reefs, and the natural environment that makes our island so unique.
